Once you select the health insurance policy most compatible to your budget and needs, its time to fill out an application. This is the first step in actually purchasing a health insurance policy but is, in no way, a legal agreement between you and the health insurance company.

To get an accurate and final health insurance quote you have to fill out an application.
The application informationThe health insurance application is usually pretty thorough. It will include questions about your:
• age
• health history
• tobacco use
• marital status
• any pre-existing condition
• current or most recent health insurance policy
Do not mislead the health insurance company by lying on your application. There are severe consequences for doing so and it may ruin your chance for obtaining health insurance from a different company in the future.
The application process
Usually your application information will need to be verified by the health insurance company. Past medical records, a physical exam and/or blood tests may be used to obtain information about your health status.
Once your application is completed and verified, the health insurance company decides whether or not to offer you a health insurance policy. If they accept your application you will receive a final health insurance price. Quotes are only estimates of the actual policy price, so this final number will either be a readjustment or a reaffirmation of your original online health insurance quote.
Sidebar The application process is very easy to start (after all, the insurance company wants your business). eHealthInsurance allows you to compare as many plans as you like, side-by-side, then decide which one you want to apply to for further information. Get a free quote now.
With the final health insurance policy in your hands, it is now up to you whether or not you want to enter into a health insurance contract with the insurance company. When making your final decision, you may want to consider other factors that do not have any bearing on your budget or needs, but still play a significant role in quality health care.
Customer satisfaction is often overlooked as a determinant in choosing a health insurance policy, but plays a huge role in the quality of care you receive.
When you finally commit to a health insurance policy, send in the appropriate forms with your initial policy installment (usually a quarter of the annual premium).
Congratulations, you are now insured!
Making last minute changesWhen you make your decision, and your health insurance application is finalized, read over it one last time. Typically you can change aspects of the policy within a certain amount of time. This is called a "free-look" provision. The review period lasts around ten to thirty days so you should read over the policy as soon as possible to make sure you are completely satisfied.
